Saber™ SCC – Somatic Cell Count
Saber SCC sensors are automated, in-line sensors that provide you with a live SCC (Somatic Cell Count) result within two minutes of cupping the cow. Software on your phone or tablet allows you to record somatic cell count results against cows, without the need for a herd identification system. It couldn’t be easier!
When you install Saber SCC you’ll enjoy:
- SCC results displayed live on your phone/tablet.
- Early warning of clinical and sub-clinical mastitis.
- Improved bulk somatic cell count management.
- Extended milking seasons due to improved selection of cows for dry off.
- Increased profitability.
Saber SCC sensors work in both rotary and herringbone parlours and with or without an electronic animal identification system*.
Before we had any automation our bulk cell count for the year was 170,000. The first year that we put Saber SCC in, that season the cell count was 125,000. The second was 119,000. The third season was 102,000. Last year the cell count was 65,000! -David Mundt, Rakaia, NZ
How Saber™ SCC will benefit your farm:
Until now the only way to get a true SCC (Somatic Cell Count) result for the cows in your herd was to do a herd test. It’s time consuming, costly and laborious. Conductivity tests were the closest farmers could come to mastitis detection in the shed, but conductivity is far from accurate, and only gives an indication of mastitis in cows.
Saber SCC, a world-leading milk sensor provides a true SCC test, with results confirmed before the cow has finished milking. This means you have somatic cell count results in real time for individual cows, enabling infections to be picked up much earlier.
Significantly Reduce Your SCC Levels
Farmers who have installed Saber SCC have been able to significantly reduce the SCC levels in their herd due to knowing exactly which cows have heightened levels and being able to pick them up at the sub-clinical level.
